Scan and pay
One scanner reads WynkPay codes and every South African bank QR. At a WynkPay shop the payment settles instantly; anywhere else it goes over PayShap.
For customers
Most digital wallets in South Africa are built for people who shop in malls and get paid into a bank account. WynkPay is built for the money that moves through the corner shop — cash in at the till you already walk past, pay by scanning a code, and get access to small credit without a payslip.
One scanner reads WynkPay codes and every South African bank QR. At a WynkPay shop the payment settles instantly; anywhere else it goes over PayShap.
PayShap transfers to any bank, addressed by cellphone number instead of an account number. Money arrives in seconds, not overnight.
Load cash at any participating WynkPay till. No branch, no ATM fee, no travelling to town to deposit money.
Buy prepaid airtime, bundles and electricity tokens straight from the wallet — including when you have no data left to browse with.
Split a qualifying basket into instalments at checkout. Affordability is assessed first, and the total you repay is shown before you agree to anything.
When the month is longer than the money, an assessed overdraft covers the gap. You see the cost in rands, and you can settle it early at no penalty.
Pay online with a card number issued against your wallet. Freeze it, set a daily limit, or make it online-only from the app.
The app queues what it cannot send and syncs the moment you have a bar of signal — you are not locked out because the tower is busy.
Verification tiers
South African law sets the ceiling, not us. FICA requires more verification for higher limits, so WynkPay opens on a low-risk tier the moment you have a phone number and raises the ceiling as you verify. These are the live platform limits.
| Tier | What we verified | Per payment | Per day | Per month | Balance cap |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| T1 | Cellphone number and a one-time PIN. Nothing else. Hold a wallet, pay in shops, send money, buy airtime and electricity. | R3 000.00 | R5 000.00 | R25 000.00 | R25 000.00 |
| T2 | Your ID document, a selfie liveness check and a verified address. Everything in T1, plus cash-out to a bank account, a virtual card, BNPL and an overdraft. | R25 000.00 | R50 000.00 | R200 000.00 | R100 000.00 |
| T3 | T2 plus proof of income or employment. Everything in T2, plus personal loan applications and cross-border remittance when it launches. | R100 000.00 | R200 000.00 | R1 000 000.00 | R500 000.00 |
Limits are enforced by the platform, not by the app on your phone, and are the same figures published here.
One screen. We send a one-time PIN to confirm the number is yours.
Your PIN unlocks the wallet and approves payments. It is hashed on your device with Argon2id and never leaves it in the clear.
Cash in at a participating shop till, get paid by someone else's WynkPay, or transfer from your bank by EFT using your personal reference.
Scan your ID and take a selfie to lift your limits. It takes about two minutes and you keep using the wallet while it processes.
