How it fits together

One counter, one afternoon, six things that are usually six companies.

A spaza owner does not buy a payments product. They run a shop, and the day makes demands in an order nobody chooses. This is that order — a Thursday in a shop turning over about R4 000 a day — with the WynkPay capability behind each moment named, so it can be checked rather than admired.

One trading day, step by step

  1. 05:40

The shop opens before the shopkeeper does

The Comms Box has been on battery since 03:00, when the grid went. It failed over from the congested MTN cell to Vodacom at some point in the night and reported both events to us. Nobody had to notice: the till network was up when the first customer arrived, and the terminal had already pulled its overnight configuration.

    Capability
Comms Box telemetry and dual-carrier failover; terminal management heartbeat
    Where in the app
Nothing — this happens before anyone opens the app
  2. 07:15

The first payment is a QR, and it never touches a card scheme

A regular buys bread and airtime money. She scans the code taped to the counter and types R38.50. Both accounts are WynkPay, so the platform takes the closed-loop path: one double-entry posting, sub-second, the merchant's balance visibly up before she has put her phone away. No interchange leg exists on that payment, because there is no second bank in it.

    Capability
Closed-loop P2M fast path with automatic PayShap fallback
    Where in the app
    Accept → Present QR
  3. 09:02

A customer from another bank scans the same code

The next customer banks elsewhere. The same counter QR resolves in his bank's app, because everything WynkPay-specific lives in an EMVCo merchant account template other schemes are required to ignore. The payment leaves as PayShap instead, and the merchant pays the open-loop rate. He never learns that two different rails just ran; neither did she.

    Capability
EMVCo interoperability; rail detection and open-loop fallback
    Where in the app
Accept → Present QR (the same code)
  4. 11:30

Airtime, electricity and a DStv voucher, over the same counter

Three sales in ten minutes, none of them stock the shop had to buy, carry or insure. Each one is routed across the aggregators to whichever is live and cheapest, and the commission lands in the settlement balance on the same daily cycle as the card takings. When the line drops at 11:41 the airtime keeps selling, out of the on-device voucher cache.

    Capability
Eight-tier VAS engine, aggregator routing, offline voucher cache
    Where in the app
Sell → choose a category → enter the number
  5. 13:20

A card, tapped on the shopkeeper's own phone

A delivery driver has no cash and no WynkPay account. The shopkeeper opens tap-to-phone, the driver taps his bank card against the back of an ordinary Android handset, and the transaction authorises. No terminal, no rental, no separate device to charge. The card data never reaches WynkPay: it is read by a certified CPoC kernel and encrypted to the acquirer.

    Capability
Softpos NFC tap-to-phone on the Halo.dot CPoC kernel
    Where in the app
    Accept → Tap to pay
  6. 16:45

Stock is ordered without closing the shop

Maize meal is down to four bags. Instead of shutting at 17:00 to drive to the wholesaler, the basket is built in the app between customers. It is paid from the settlement balance — and the two cases that will not fit are put on 30-day terms, against a stock-on-credit limit sized on takings the platform can already see.

    Capability
Wholesale Hub with supplier catalogues, delivery tracking and stock on credit
    Where in the app
    Stock → Suppliers → Basket
  7. 18:10

A fridge dies, and the advance is already there

The drinks fridge stops. A new one is R14 000 that the shop does not have in December. There is no application: the offer is already in the app, sized on ninety days of settlement, quoting one number — the total repayable — with the initiation fee, the service fee, the interest and the annual cost rate itemised beside it. Accepted at 18:14, in the wallet the same evening, repaid as a slice of each day's takings. A quiet Tuesday is a smaller instalment.

    Capability
Merchant cash advance: affordability rules, NCA pricing, NACR disclosure
    Where in the app
Money → Cash advance → Offer
  8. 20:30

The till closes on numbers, not on a guess

Cash counted, card takings reconciled, VAS commission totalled, advance deduction shown as a line and not as a surprise. Settlement runs the next business day into the shop's own bank account. The month's statement is one the shop can hand to SARS, which for a lot of informal-sector traders is the first time that has ever been true.

    Capability
Daily settlement, statements and transaction history
    Where in the app
    Money → Today · Statements

The point

None of these is the product. The sequence is.

Any one of these can be bought separately, and most shops already do: one company for the card machine, another for airtime, a wholesaler with its own terms, a lender who wants three months of bank statements. What none of them can do is price the advance off the settlement, or let the stock order be paid from this morning's takings, or keep selling airtime when the tower falls over. That only works when it is one ledger.
